If you are looking strictly for price there are some cheaper but for ease of use, good research, company stability, and reputation Schwab stands out in my opinion. I have been with them for years (as a customer) and have had no problems. Trades are $12.95 up to as I recall 1000 shares and if you are an active trader it drops to $9.95 per trade. They also have a "streetsmart" screen for active traders which has running timely quotes on stocks of interest to you and fast, accurate trades. Should you need further assistance their phone team is excellent for helping with trades or general information I am quite satisfied.
I can't speak for the others but I use Scottrade and it is excellent with only $7 trade commissions. As far as I know they are the cheapest around.
You can open an free Marketiva forex \gold\fund\indexs online trading account , with $5 reward and $20000 virtrual fund for practice .Just click the following link to open an account.

You will DEFINITELY like zecco.com with its $0 commission. It is ad based and requires only $2500 to begin trading.
Picking a brokerage company on price alone is a sure course for disaster. I day trade. I have no interest in a zero commission company. I would imagine there is fine print somewhere.
I use Scottrade, very fast, and has all the trading tools I need including free Level 2 quotes (in accts of $25000)
